Chateau D’Ardrée is situated in the heart of the Loire Valley just 8 miles north of Tours and is an ideal location from which to explore the beauty of the surrounding country side and visit
“ Les Châteaux de la Loire” and other historical sites.
HISTORY
The first side of the château was built in the 17th century and the other side in the 19th century.
The park was drawn by Eugène Bülher between 1863 and 1867. Eugène Bülher was from a nursery family. With his brother Denis, who manage the company, he realised about one hundred parks and gardens for politic and finance elite. In Touraine he drew about 15 public or private gardens and in particular “Parc des Prébendes “in Tours.
In the 19th century, it was Ernest Mame’s property, the Alfred Mame’s nevew who founded an important printing works in Tours in which they printed religious books.
Then it was Ernest’s son property whose name was Gustave and by wedding Vatin-Perignon family got it.
During the Second World War, the château was used as the Spanish Embassy.
In 1953, a man who got a restaurant in Paris bought the property, at this time there were different building used as a farm.
In 1980, the owner died and the descendants sold the property, then it was divided and Merovingian sarcophagus was founded in the park and kept in the village’s Chapel.
